1 - I think the consumer code might be as important if not moreso, in that case. It's so darn easy to create a web service now (in Notes 7), but still a huge pain to actually call one.
I really hope that they help us out with that in 7.5. Since they're using Axis under the covers it seems like they ought to be able to abstract something out, but that's probably kind of hairy business.
On the other hand, they were able to do it on the provider side...

2 - Yeah - by this point in the technology cycle, anyone who really needed to consume badly will have sorted it out by now.
Still - this baby - all of four lines - should be great for getting started and/or test consuming of homebrew web services. No excuses now!
Oh - I've submitted a number of abstracts for fear 2006 - including a web services from the ground up style one..

Its quite a bit Java code, but of course its possible to write Java Code in an agent which communicates as a client with a web service server. O.k. You might know that. We did that with Domino 5 and Sun Toolkit on Tomcat (don't remember version). My main customer uses Java code which acts as a Webservice MQ client to access some scary host program. Works well. Of course you need a environment with Websphere MQ experience.

4 - Hi Bill - if it's not too much trouble, the hadsl.com link has become outdated. If you still have the code somewhere, it would be really nice to have, please...
