How much does Microsoft spend on marketing ?

And compare against:

Oh. My. God.

Gravatar Image1 - Bill, I've just eaten. You could have put up a warning or something. That is the most nauseating display I have ever seen.

Gravatar Image2 - That is shocking, absolutely shocking. How could they think that was a good idea? And how could Bruce even lower himself to that level?

I can't believe that video would make even one IT manager think it was time to upgrade, in fact it would push most in the opposite direction I would have thought...

Gravatar Image3 - In fairness (VOWE is WATCHING YOU!) the MS one was a 'spoof' ad for the MS salesforce. So why's it on YouTube?

Still, the chorus is amazing. 'Vista, I gotta get me some!'.. *snort*

Gravatar Image4 - The thing that finally tipped me over the edge was the part about productivity. Exactly how is a move from XP to Vista going to improve anyone's productivity? It's just fatuous nonsense.

Gravatar Image5 - @4, Chris, don't you understand? It's the wow! Yes, it's all about the wow. If you have wow, then you are more productive. It's very simple. I mean, how do you expect people to get work done efficiently without transparent windows? Like, if the windows in your office weren't transparent you wouldn't be very productive now would you? Unless you had a light. Erm, yeah... where was I? The Wow! Gotta have it.

Gravatar Image6 - @3 I doubt it was a spoof. I'd guess it's just Microsoft's way of trying to dodge an embarassing situation.

Who remembers the "Microsoft anthem" (or was it "Windows anthem" ) mp3 that used to be on microsoft.com ?

Gravatar Image7 - "Wow is now - full song.mp3" hehe Emoticon

Link to the mp3 is dead, but I found the story:

Gravatar Image8 - Even before I read the comments I guessed the Vista video (hope Bruce sues them) was something to amuse the Microsoft sales force at a pep rally. I'll be honest, I've seen similar things in IBM but never at that scale or budget. That's where the revenue from Office goes folks.

@4 - couldn't agree more. What have they done to Notepad that saves me 15 minutes a day?

Gravatar Image9 - Hey guys...gotta lighten up a bit. The MS thing was a bit amusing. Sure, Vista may be bloated, hard to use and the opposite of user-friendly, but you gotta give them points for entertainment. I mean, come on..."Gotta get me some"...LOL Emoticon

Gravatar Image10 - mac: Hi I'm a Mac
pc: And I'm a PC
mac: Hey PC, watcha got there?
pc: oh, just some games...
mac: cool, can I play?
pc: heh, no.

Gravatar Image11 - It was so cringeworthy i couldn't bare to watch the rest, i almost lost my mindEmoticon Emoticon

Gravatar Image12 - I trusted you until now Bill - my stomach may never recover....

Gravatar Image13 - 1985 - Born in the USA tour - Wembley - The Boss - nuff said Emoticon

Gravatar Image14 - @Veggieboy: Games ? Games ? I have unreal tournament, Quake 4.. What other games do you want ? And which of those games run on Vista?

Oh - we can play Wii Games on the Wii device, PS2 games on the PS2 device, but believe me - 20 years of my experience says - PC games ? Ah. No. Unreliable..

@Susan. I'm sorry. It was meant to amuse.

Does the MS thing deserve external viewing ? I'm not sure. I can see how the faithful get off on it, but I cant see how it helps M$ bring new business. So why publish it.

A bit like: { Link }

On a more serious note, you can find Microsoft's Vista videos here: { Link }

And they are not nearly as good as the iPhone videos: { Link }

And better than anything I have seen from Lotus.

Gravatar Image16 - @14: What about Flight Simulator X or Sims 2? Age of Empires is also a game I enjoy when I have time...

Gravatar Image17 - @16: Wine on Linux will possibly handle those. And using non-vendor-lockin libraries.

Gravatar Image18 - @14: ...Ando don't forget the World of Warcrsft and Civilization IV - in my opinion no other games needs ever be written. Emoticon
