8 hours of hell. Still the M6 Tollroad meant I bypassed the infamous Spaghetti junction in Birmingham.

Gravatar Image1 - Not bad - but that still looks easier than the "magic roundabout" in Hemel Hempstead.

Gravatar Image2 - Yeah, but you dont have to approach the Magic Roundabout at speeds in excess of 120mph.. Emoticon

Gravatar Image3 - 120mph?? I would think the Gestapo would be standing at the other end with the tow truck and the legirons the way the UK is going today.....

I can sympathise with the hell, when coming back from Stockholm last year I had an 8 hour frustration trip till I got to Germany. Then I had a 2 hour Grin Factor where the speed rarely dropped below 110mph (not bad for an Automatic Galaxy).

Sadly when I stopped for fuel and checked the Oil the vapour rising out of the dipstick warned of a required drop in speed Emoticon

Which meant that after 19.5 hours I had to stop in Lille and rest instead of moving on.

Oh and whilst I'm on the subject of speed, they changed the law in France this year. If you are caught over the alcohol limit or doing more than 50km/h over the speed limit, they will impound your vehicle and keep it till the court case is over (up to 2 years). Then the court may just decide to keep it anyway.....

Gravatar Image4 - I don't remember seeing that river before.

Gravatar Image5 - That picture would be Birmingham, Alabama, not Birmingham, West Midlands.

There's way to much water in view for it to be the Venice of the north even though it has been raining here recently.

Easy mistake to make, though.

PS - do drop in next time you're passing - my office is a stone's throw from J6 (yes, spaghetti junction).

Chris - I might do that tomorrow night, in the UKLug van.. Emoticon

Gravatar Image8 - Bill, I'll be doing your journey ( well, most of it ) in reverse tomorrow, as I'm driving up the A34/M40/M42/M6/M74/M8 to Edinburgh. See you at the WUG ?

PS No, I won't actually be driving north in reverse gear, although it might help me keep the MINI's mileage under 70K

Gravatar Image9 - Dave - a Mini! Class! I couldnt imagine doing that journey in a mini cooper S - the suspension is just too hard, and the tyres just too expensive.. Emoticon

WUG - might do. I have to live through this week first.

See you at UKLUG ?
