LotusFlu

You can tell if its been a good Lotusphere by the amount of folks coming down with colds, flus, collapsed arches and so forth. This year, I think I've won the 'Lotusphere Sicko' prize. About 5 days beforehand and during Lotusphere, I've been in agony with a skin complaint, which erupted into blisters, etc. I put it down to excess sweat, lack of sleep, and general fatigue (the last six months have been somewhat frantic). I booked a doctors appointment during the closing general session...

And so this morning, after the usual 'Your overweight, have high blood pressure, drink too much, smoke' opening gambit, the poor doctor donned a full NBC suit and prodded my flabby body.

"Shingles", he announced...

This is a by-product of having Chicken Pox as a kid. The Virus never leaves you, and conveniently forms an immunity to Smallpox, so its quite a handy Virus to have. However, when your - you guessed it - stressed and fatigued, it might erupt into a very painful series of skin rashes and blisters. (Its non-communicable, so anyone who was foolish enough to hug me last week should be okay)

"Was it sore?" he said, taking blood to check my liver...

"Och, not really". masking the agony I had been in on the flights and during the conference. "The Whisky helped"...

"Oh", he said looking at the blood he'd taken.. "Lots?"

"Actually a lot less than usual. Perhaps 50 units for the week..."

I think the poor man had to go and lie down afterwards... Anywhoo, I'm on the mend, and have regular checkups with the Quack now so he can monitor my blood pressure, weight, smoking, alcohol intake... Did I miss anything ?

Well, if I cant be a good example, I guess I can be a terrible warning...
