Microsoft Office File Formats

Next time someone tells you Microsoft Office File formats are a 'standard', take em outside and shoot em. As you can expect, I'm in powerpoint hell right now. My diminutive but perfectly formed speaking partner - Paul Mooney - is using Powerpoint 2003 on the Mac. And can Powerpoint 2003 on the PC read it ? No. However, as you would expect, iWorks's Keynote '08 works perfectly fine in reading the powerpoint file. So after several hours of pain, the presentation is done. But guess what. The exported Powerpoint 2003 is no longer compatible with Mac Office 2003 powerpoint.

AUUUUGGGGGGH. Even MS Powerpoint 2003 for windows and MS Powerpoint 2004 for Mac isnt compatible. And of course, some folks out there are advocating using MS Powerpoint 2007 (for the PC) or Powerpoint 2008 beta for the MAC. If anyone claims that Office 2007 XML is even understood let alone supportable by MS let alone anyone else, hit them with a 'clue' stick...

ENOUGH. Just accept that MS cannot even be compatible with their own proprietary file formats, and move to OpenOffice. There's no guarantee that it'll be any better - but at least it'll be cheaper..

Mutter, mutter, mutter.. If Steve Ballmer was here, I'd give him a fricking Demo he'd remember...
