"Ohhhhh Viennnnnnnnnaaaaaaaa....."

It was a classic tune by Ultravox, headed up by famous scotsman Midge Ure. Who then became Bob Geldof's chief fixer in Live aid. Fantastic tune. And at the age of 12 or 13, I could play it on the violin.

Little did I realise, some 28 years later, that I would be in Vienna twice in the space of six weeks, both for geekfests. This one - the View Developer/Admin 2006 conference 2006 - is an amazing event. Again, la creme de la creme of Lotus Developers - Bob Balaban, Rocky Oliver, Mary Beth Raven - other noted luminaries such as Ed Brill - are all here. Some of the most amazing speakers (and I exclude myself from this category) such as Chris Miller, (Bob, Rocky, Mary Beth and Ed, obviously), Chris Blatnick, Rob Novak (and a host of others).

So a good time is certainly being had by myself. Mostly shadowing the BlackBerry folks at this stage, thanks to being asked to host a BlackBerry/Domino application session tomorrow. In about seven hours...

Its in a pyramid hotel - which is a first for me - and on the outskirts of Vienna. Next to the biggest shopping mall in Europe. Should I kill two birds with one stone and sort out my Xmas shopping ? I've been advised NOT to ... So when was the last time I followed orders ?

Oh. And its offficial. The Pearl is the sexiest phone in the world, period. I even managed to pursuade (presumably after much pursuasion by Volker) Ed to get himself a Pearl. Lovely.

Which made it doubly ironic that I gave away about 30 pearl phones tonight to conference delegates. Told you you should have came along.. :-)
