Unusual Technology...

During a site visit to Cambridge yesterday, there was a discussion at lunchtime over odd uses of technology. I recounted my cc:mail days, where I used to put cc:mail router out in remote unsupported sites, such as on ships, etc. Sometimes, we used to run these via 24-hour timers, so they would always be power-cycled overnight (early compaq desktops didnt like running for extended periods of time).

One of the other chaps recounted an OS/2 story where a particular process had to run, and sometimes the machine would freeze if the screen-saver kicked in. A solution proposed by one woman at committee level at this customer site - a health authority - was to "attach her vibrator to the mouse"...
